    About the Center for Land-Based Learning
    The mission of the Center for Land-Based Learning is to inspire, educate, and cultivate future generations of farmers, agricultural leaders and natural resource stewards. We achieve this mission by providing experiential education programs for high school students (the SLEWS, Caring for our Watersheds, and FARMS Leadership Programs) and a beginning farmer training and development program (the California Farm Academy). These model programs provide hands-on experiences through which participants develop leadership skills and create connections to environmental, agricultural, and food system careers. Our programs span 27 California counties and reach over 2,000 people each year.

    The SLEWS (Student and Landowner Education and Watershed Stewardship) Program engages California high school students and teachers in meaningful environmental stewardship that allows students to practice scientific skills, learn from natural resource professionals, and expand on classroom concepts, while accomplishing real habitat restoration projects on farms, ranches and open spaces. We strive to provide meaningful educational experiences while achieving the most effective ecological impact on the land. The coordinator must therefore have a strong background in, and passion for, experiential education, habitat restoration and program coordination.


    Job Summary
    The Center for Land-Based Learning is seeking a full-time SLEWS Program Coordinator. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer and works closely with the Office Manager, Program Directors/Managers, and the Grants and Contracts Manager.

    The SLEWS Program Coordinator will oversee the Sacramento Valley SLEWS Program. This position includes working with partners to plan, implement, and lead a robust season of habitat restoration programming for high school youth; developing contracts, writing grant proposals and reports, and managing all program funding and databases; program outreach; and volunteer training and recruitment.

    The position will be based out of the Center for Land-Based Learning’s office at 40140 Best Ranch Road, Woodland, CA.


    Responsibilities
    Job duties include, but are not limited to:
    • Working with partners to select, develop and plan restoration projects for SLEWS Program field days
    • Recruiting student participants through school presentations, and coordinating student selection with teachers
    • Ensuring that School Agreements and student participant paperwork are completed and on file
    • Coordinating and leading approximately 30 hands-on student field days per year
    • Recruiting and training up to 60 partners and volunteers to serve as mentors for student field days
    • Assist with the supervision of one high school student intern from Christo Rey High School (1 day per week)
    • Handling all logistics for student field days including ordering food, bringing tools, providing educational materials as well as coordinating with partners, teachers and mentors
    • Communicating regularly with participating students, teachers, partners and mentors about ongoing program activities
    • Developing and maintaining effective organizational systems for SLEWS Program supplies, equipment and paperwork
    • Developing and maintaining relationships with restoration partners, landowners, guest speakers/presenters, schools, and funders
    • Uploading and organizing SLEWS online blog posts, photos, and video
    • Creating outreach materials such as PowerPoint presentations, posters, slideshows and the SLEWS video
    • Working with the CLBL finance team to create and review the annual SLEWS Program budget
    • Working with local media to publicize SLEWS program activities
    • Researching funding opportunities, writing grant proposals, tracking deliverables, and submitting grant reports, in collaboration with the Grants and Contracts Manager
    • Updating and administering pre- and post-program surveys, compiling results, and sharing data with partners and funders
    • Supporting teachers in developing and implementing classroom curricula to complement field day activities
    • Speaking on behalf of the SLEWS Program and CLBL at conferences and workshops
    • Helping to plan and implement CLBL events and supporting other CLBL programs as needed

    Qualifications
    The ideal candidate will be passionate about the mission and work of CLBL and will possess the following experience, skills and personal attributes:
    • Experience coordinating programs
    • Excellent communication, social and writing skills
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Experience with grant writing, tracking deliverables, and grant reporting
    • A demonstrated ability and willingness to work effectively with youth
    • An ability and willingness to work with diverse partners and stakeholders
    • Ability to work in the field (lifting, hiking, planting, etc.)
    • A background in either formal or informal educational programs
    • A background in ecological restoration and/or sustainable agriculture

    Hours, Benefits, and Compensation
    This is a 40 hour/week non-exempt position. Occasional evenings and weekends will be necessary.
    Range from $24-$27/hour, commensurate with experience.
